Choosing the correct concrete sleepers depends on more than appearance.

Factors such as retaining wall height, loading conditions, soil type, post spacing and drainage requirements can influence the type of retaining wall system required.

Concrete sleepers are commonly selected because they offer:

Long-term durability, low maintenance requirements, consistent sizing and strength, resistance to rot and termites,
suitability for residential and commercial retaining walls

For larger retaining walls or projects involving sloping ground, surcharge loading or fencing, engineering requirements may apply.

Concrete Sleeper Sizes and Compatible Materials

Concrete sleepers must be compatible with the retaining wall steel spacing and approved wall design.

Matching materials available from Outwest Sleepers include 100UC, 150UB and 150UC steel posts, with 200UC available by special order. Drainage products, waterproofing membrane, geofabric and fence plates can also be supplied with concrete sleeper orders.

Final steel selection should be based on the engineering design, wall loading, soil conditions and project requirements.

Concrete Sleeper Delivery Victoria

Concrete sleeper delivery is available throughout Melbourne, Bacchus Marsh, Melton, Ballarat, Geelong and regional Victoria.

Metro delivery is generally available within 2–3 business days, while regional delivery is generally available within 2–5 business days. Delivery timeframes remain subject to stock availability, order size, unloading requirements and site access.

Sleepers, steel posts and accessories can be coordinated in one delivery. Staged supply can also be arranged for larger trade, development and commercial projects.

What concrete sleeper sizes are available?

Standard lengths are 1,800 mm, 2,000 mm and 2,400 mm, with 80 mm thickness, 40 MPa concrete and 2 × N12 reinforcement. Check the required span and specification against your approved design.

How is delivery priced?

Freight depends on the materials, load size, destination, access and unloading arrangements. Request a combined materials and freight quote before placing a delivery order.

Can I collect my order?

Pickup is by prior arrangement from 16 Hillside Street, Maddingley VIC 3340. Call 0400 032 163 before travelling to confirm readiness, collection time and loading arrangements.

Which steel section should I order?

Use your approved engineering or designer’s steel schedule. Selection depends on loads, ground conditions, spacing and connections; wall height alone is insufficient.
